Don’t Be Scared of the Stairs

During the holiday the season, we have an aptitude for “overindulging” in the tastiness of the delights.  This is inevitable…it will happen but to what degree and for how long is based upon what kind of treats find their way into the office.  So, to combat this increase in calories, try a few different things to up the calorie burn and help the body which is screaming for some activity outside of going to the copier and back.  (for the record, this advice is good year round...it is not holiday dependent J)

1. Take the Stairs – going up and down the stairs at work instead of the elevator is a good way to keep moving.   Think of how many times you wait to take the elevator….in the end it will probably take the same amount of time unless you work in a skyscraper.

2. Stop Looking for the “Perfect Spot” – if you have ever gone to the stores during the holiday season, the parking lots are packed.  STOP TRYING TO GET A SPOT RIGHT UP FRONT!!!  Just park in the back…it is going to happen anyway so you might as well just get that extra walking in.

3. Walk off Temptation – if you spend your lunch in the break room, it is certain to have a lot of brownies, cookies, and that delicious chocolately thing the girl down in accounting cooks up for the month of December.  Take your sandwhich out of that caloric hot spot and go for a little walk.  If its cold, bundle up and get out and enjoy the fresh air…instead of an impending sugar coma that will bring productivity down to a screeching halt.
