What is it to be goal oriented….I just want to lose weight?
Establishing goals…..this can be a boring part of the exercise and health structure that is necessary but let’s look at it another way. Let’s talk about me! That is what goals essentially are, a defined pathway that is based upon the individual and where they want to go. Many women will go immediately to the “I want to lose XXX pounds,” but it needs to be more than one thing. There are times in the exercise process where weight is not lost, particularly around holiday seasons where from a psychological standpoint this single goal becomes incredibly difficult to focus on. Here is a list of goals to consider before going forward with a new exercise play:
1. I want to feel better – regular exercise can improve “feel good hormones” throughout the body and brain. The release of natural endorphins gives you a better outlook on life simply because your brain is happier. Important to the goal, when you notice you're not feeling as good and know you haven’t been exercising, it is a good reason to get back on track.
2. I want to have more energy – Although exercising can make your tired while doing, it will vitalize you afterwards. Increasing your metabolism through regular exercise can decrease you need to eat because of poor utilization of glucose and encourage more activity because you need to “burn it up.” That restless feeling of wanting to go run is much better than satisfying that need with a Bic Mac and then crash within an hour.
3. I want to be able to do more – If you don’t feel you have the strength or stamina to paint the kitchen, lift heavy laundry baskets, keep up with a busy and physically demanding schedule with family, work, hobbies, and “you” time. Regular exercise can give you the boost to make the impossible reality.
4. I want take control – There is a strong relationship between maintaining a fit and healthly lifestyle with displaying an image of confidence and control. Particularly in the working world, regular exercise can improve overall posture and physical strength to meet the challenges where women are still struggling for equal pay and opportunity.
5. I want to lead by example – Best way to convince others to meet a challenge is to do it yourself. If you are looking to encourage healthy habits with your family, friends, or loved ones you have to practice what you preach.
6. I want to sleep better – Having trouble sleeping because of all the stress in your life? Regular exercise can release built up stress and tension that keeps you awake at night. More restful sleep means a more productive and positive you.
